The Post and Courier published a story regarding a local favorite, Poe’s Tavern. The article discusses not only the restaurant’s name, theme, atmosphere but also their food–which I admit I’m a huge fan!

Poe’s Tavern on Sullivan’s Island long has been known for its quality food, particularly its burgers, which have become a near-legendary local favorite. But the good food shouldn’t overshadow the “tavern” aspect of Poe’s.
As any regular could tell you, Poe’s is regularly packed probably because it fits the Lowcountry atmosphere perfectly, especially Sullivan’s Island. While Poe’s is definitely a notch above the typical beachfront “bar,” the vibe remains casual and relaxed even when busy, due in no small part to an accommodating staff long accustomed to its establishment’s popularity. The outdoor seating is ideal when the weather cooperates, Poe’s is a decent place for all your sports-watching needs and features live music frequently. Poe’s has a large selection of draft (what they call “draught”) and bottled beer.
Poe’s is named after famed poet Edgar Allan Poe, who, beginning in 1827, spent 13 months while serving in the Army at Fort Moultrie on Sullivan’s Island. During his time on Sullivan’s, Poe was inspired to write “The Gold-Bug,” arguably one of the writer’s most famous works after the horror favorite “The Raven.”
This Sullivan’s Island institution’s continued, combined effort to offer up tasty food and a festive atmosphere has been key in its success. Poe’s Tavern likely continue to be a favorite destination for thirsty folks in search of good spirits or just looking to raise their own.
