Voting
In order to vote in the next election, you must register 
with your Charleston County thirty days prior to an election. 
You will need to bring proof of residency when you apply.

register at the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Department of Motor Vehicles
If you are new to South Carolina and establish permanent 
residence here, you must apply for a South Carolina driver 
license. If you own any vehicles they must also be registered 
in our state.

If you have a valid driver’s license issued by the state 
from which you moved, you can use it for 90 days, after 
which time you must surrender it and obtain a South Carolina 
driver license. You have 45 days to transfer your out of 
state vehicle registration to South Carolina.

If you are traveling from Sullivan’s Island, take a right 
on Rifle Range Road. Continue on Rifle Range Road through 
the two traffic circles until you reach the Isle of Palms
Connector/SC-517/Clyde Moultrie Dangerfield Highway. Take 
a left on the Connector. Then take a right onto Iron 
Bridge Road. The DMV is located in the building to your 
left. You will have to go through security to access the 
building. (The DMV is located across the Hampton Inn)
